SGX-listed corporate chiefs who may be Members of Parliament

I read the report “State of the Slates” of Part D of the Straits Times of 6 June 2015 with much interest. Of the likely New PAP faces, there are two who are the current management figures of SGX-listed companies. They are Chong Kee Hiong, Chief Executive of OUE Hospitality Trust and Cheng Li Hui, Deputy Chief Executive of Hai Leck Holdings, an engineering, procurement and construction services company. The report is quite an interesting read so much so that even potential ministerial candidates were mentioned, for this I trawled the internet for more details and am glad that there is a comprehensive one at this link.
Now back to the topic of today’s post, while it is not that surprising to see a member of Parliament helm a company for example Mr Mah Bow Tan is the non-executive Chairman of Global Yellow Pages; in the post-2011-General Election, I feel that the populace in general are more interested in each candidate put forth by each party. For the ruling party, I feel that more interest will be directed at candidates who do not come from the usual pool of PSC scholars or military chiefs. Being an investor myself, I am naturally interested to read names from SGX-listed companies put forth to serve the public should they win the elections. Both OUE Hospitality Trust and Hai Leck Holdings are, based on the figures from the SGX website, fundamentally good companies and like other Singaporeans, I will be interested to know more about Mr Chong and Ms Cheng in the official election introductions should they be confirmed as PAP’s candidates.
