FOUR STOCKS YOU MAY WANT TO BUY IN 2018

Stocks to Buy for Year 2018
Dear readers, as shared in yesterday’s post, I would be doing a series of posts highlighting what are the recommended buys for the upcoming year. With STI already at highs, I am curious as to what basis financial personnel here recommend certain stocks for the next year. And I am even more curious to know what are the exact names of these stocks.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE STI NOW?

HOW YOU COULD HAVE PROFITED MORE THAN 14.5% YEAR-TO-DATE ON SGX- RELATIVELY RISK-FREE?

So by now, what you would have known how your investments for the year-to-date have fared.

COMFORT THE GROWTH (FOR NOW)

ComfortDelgro stock
Dear readers, in my post of 8 Dec 2017, I touched on ComfortDelgro stock, a billion-cap stock which has recently went very low in price. I highlighted in my post that the traditional transport model like for ComfortDelgro has been disrupted by ride sharing and hailing apps in the likes of Uber and Grab. Shortly after my post, it was reported yesterday that ComfortDelgro has invested in Uber to the effect that commuters are able to book ComfortDelgro taxis via Uber apps and ComfortDelgro taxi drivers could turn to the Uber model to increase their revenues.

DOES THIS STOCK STILL HAVE MULTI-BAGGING POTENTIAL?

Accrelist stock
Dear readers, on 5 Dec 2017, Accrelist stock topped the most active stock on SGX as the stock went around 29% down on high volumes to close at $0.005, down from the previous price of $0.007. If you remember, Accrelist stock, the former name of which is called WE Holdings has been on the radar of Singapore Stocks Investing ever since noticing that the largest stakeholder and Executive Chairman of Accrelist, Mr Terence Tea has been buying the shares of the company on a very regular basis. And there can only be one conclusion from this: that the Executive Chairman himself is bullish of the company.

ARE THESE THREE STOCKS THE STRONGEST SGX STOCKS TO INVEST NOW?

Dear readers, do you wonder whether there are stocks on the SGX which has revenue growth of more than 10% not only in the past fiscal year but also in the past three year as well as in the previous five years? I have cited these three periods together with a good percentage of growth 10% in each of these periods to identify stocks which show consistency in growing revenues. And what if you add in the criteria that the net profit margin of the company behind the stock in the past fiscal year must be positive along with the criteria that the stock must pay at least a 4% dividend yield?

DO YOU KNOW THESE 12 SGX STOCKS ARE AT 52-WEEKS LOWS?

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, though the STI as a barometer of Singapore stocks may be showing a good reading for year 2017 to date, on the ground, it is a mixed results for Singapore stocks across the board. Some of the bigger winners this year are bank but for smaller-cap stocks as well as some other larger-cap stocks, they find themselves at the south end of the scale. Below are 12 SGX stocks which are trading at 52-weeks low. Are these stocks discount players now at these prices or value traps? I believe only a thorough research could suss out the longer-term investment plays from this lot.

STI STOCKS: AN UPDATE

Dear readers, as usual, once a week, we will be looking at the state of the STI stocks for the previous trading week, focusing just on the STI constituent stocks which are either oversold or overbought based on their RSI levels. Are you ready for the post? Lets go then!

For Overbought stocks, we have two STI stocks in this category: OCBC bank and UOB stock. I have read how DBS stock price has climbed to very high prices, but it seems like now is not a good time to enter into OCBC and UOB stock either. Banks should benefit if the US Federal Reserves will meet the expectations to increase interest rate hikes.

NO SIGNBOARD: AN UPDATE

No Signboard stock
Dear readers, NO SIGNBOARD which made its debut on the SGX last week closed at $0.295 yesterday. This is just only 5.36% of No Signboard’s IPO price of $0.28. Though it was reported that the IPO was very over-subscribed, No Signboard stock reached an intra-day high of $0.33 before going down to the current $0.29/$0.295 range. As compared to the recent IPO debutants, the first day of No Signboard has not been impressive. But what about the recent IPO debutants’ performance?

Dear readers, it was reported on 28 Nov 2017 that Mr Lee Ark Boon, CEO of IE Singapore would be stepping down from the helm of IE Singapore to join the private sector. As the search is now on for the next CEO of Starhub, naturally, it leads me to wonder whether Mr Lee Ark Boon will be joining Starhub as the next CEO. SHOULD YOU MAKE USE OF THIS MARKET OPPORTUNITY NOW?

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, recently the US dollar has retreated slightly versus the Singapore dollar. As it now stands, 1 USD equals to SGD$1.34; down much lower than the SGD $1.38 which the USD dollar has managed to climb to on expectations of the interest rate hikes. If you are of the view that it is a matter of when and not whether US dollar will trend higher versus the Singapore dollar, it may be time now to make use of this market opportunity.

FOUR IPOS, FOUR IMPORTANT UPDATES

Singapore stocks
Dear readers, recently we have a slew of IPOs. To recap, we had RES Holdings IPO, followed by MindChamps IPO. And for this week, we have No Signboard IPO as well as Cromwell IPO. I would like to share with you some important updates here in relation to the four IPOs.

FIVE STOCKS, ONE UPCOMING IPO AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

MINDCHAMPS STOCK: OF FOCUS

Dear readers, you would have agreed with me that MindChamps stock which recently made its debut on the SGX amidst a much oversubscription has performed well. Yesterday, MindChamps stock closed at $0.96 per share which is $0.13 (or 15.66%) above its IPO per share of $0.83 per share. I believe investors who are invested into MindChamps did so for a couple of reasons like the MindChamps brand name, the growth prospects of private early childhood education in Singapore and the fact that SPH, a Temasek-linked company has a stake in MindChamps. MindChamps owns, operates and franchises infant care centres, pre-schools, enrichment centres as part of its business.

[BREAKING NEWS!] CIVIL SERVANTS TO GET ONE MONTH BONUS

Dear readers, it was announced that yesterday civil servants will get a full month bonus, on top of their 13th month bonus for year 2017. For the whole year 0f 2017, inclusive of the 0.5 month bonus paid in July 2017, the total bonuses for a civil servant works out to be 1.5 months bonus. This is not including performance bonus as well as the 13th month bonus paid to a civil servant. I think the news of the year-end bonus is a positive one for civil servants though I myself am not one. I am happy for my friends who are civil servants as they will be getting the one month bonus.

HOW TO BECOME A MILLIONAIRE IN 20 YEARS WITH JUST $2,000?

Singapore STOCKS
Dear readers, yesterday, in my blog post of the update of Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon becoming the world’s richest person at US $100 million, I also highlighted to the effect that if an investor invested just US$2,000 into Jeff Bezo’s Amazon stock in year 1997 (when Amazon stock was just trading at US$1.73), did nothing about it and put this investment into a chest box. Twenty years later (which is now), when Jeff Bezos became the world’s richest at US$100 billion, you opened the chest box, and your original investment of US$2,000 would have become a 686 times multi-bagger (since the last closing price of Amazon was US$1,186). Congrats, you have become a millionaire at around US$1,300,0000! And your chest box has become a treasure box!

STI STOCKS: AN UPDATE

STI stocks
Dear readers, how time flies; we are now into weekends. Let us now review the performance of STI stocks for the trading week of 20 Nov 17 to 24 Nov 17. As usual, we will be focusing on STI constituent stocks; those with notable moves (like overbought or oversold).

Saturday, November 25, 2017

JEFF BEZOS: WORLD RICHEST AT US$100 BILLION

I woke up to the news that Amazon founder, Mr Jeff Bezos who has recently made it to the richest of the world has become even richer with a net worth of US $100 BILLION. That means to say Jeff Bezos has a net worth of US$100,000,000,000! To me, this is an astronomical amount considering that many are still striving toward becoming a millionaire.

CROMWELL REIT OR NO SIGNBOARD IPO?

CROMWELL REIT IPO
Dear readers, CROMWELL REIT and NO SIGNBOARD IPO are currently having their IPO (just as how MindChamps and RES have their IPOs last week). Among these two IPOs, which one should investors choose?

While I am not in the position to influence your choice of IPOs, and I do not wish to have this article influence the way you invest; I would just want to share my thinking of these two IPOs.

For CROMWELL REIT, the background is now quite clear. This is an attempt once again for CROMWELL REIT as it exclude some assets like Polish assets from its portfolio of its first attempted listing some time back. CROMWELL REIT is a REIT portfolio with a diversified pan-European portfolio.

DBS STOCK: WHAT INVESTORS NEED TO KNOW?

Dear Readers, just a few days ago, Hong Kong’s Tencent stock overtook Facebook as the most valuable tech company with a market valuation of US$522B, more than Facebook’s valuation of a little over US$519B. Back in Singapore, Singtel has always been the most valuable company in Singapore in terms of market capitalization. But yesterday, DBS with a market capitalization of $63.71B overtook Singtel’s market capitalization of $60.25B as Singapore’s most valuable company. Hence in Hong Kong, they have Tencent making a quantum leap over its US counterpart Facebook. And back in Singapore, we have DBS taking over Singtel as the most valuable company in Singapore.

IS THIS THE MOST UNDERVALUED AND HIGHEST DIVIDEND BILLION-CAP SINGAPORE STOCK NOW?

Singapore stocks

DID TOM K GET THE RE&S IPO STOCK?

RE&S stock
Dear readers, yesterday after work, I went to update my bank account. Not to see how much I have saved but rather to see whether I have been successfully allotted the IPO shares of RE&S. If you could recall, RE&S will start its debut trading on SGX tomorrow. As my bank book got updated with lots of “beeps”, I was wondering whether one of the beeps could be the refund of the amount I have subscribed for the IPO stock.

GST TO INCREASE?

GST Singapore tax Dear readers, the PAP held its annual Party and Awards convention yesterday. One key takeaway for me, from what was reported of the convention was the fact that taxes, according to the Prime Minister may have to increase in tandem with what we are investing in our economy. It was reported that PM Lee cited Finance Minister Heng’s saying that tax increases are not a matter of whether but a matter of when.

MINDCHAMPS IPO VS RES IPO: WHICH WOULD YOU SUBSCRIBE?

Mindchamps IPO, RES IPO
Dear readers, just a gentle reminder for those of you who are into Singapore IPOs. There are currently two IPOs ongoing. One is MindChamps IPO and the other one is RES IPO. MindChamps IPO will close at noon on 22 Nov 2017 and the shares will start trading on 24 Nov 2017. On the other hand, RES IPO will close at noon on 20 Nov 2017 and will make its trading debut on 22 Nov 2017. What investors should note is that it may be very challenging to successful ballot for these two IPOs as only 2 million shares for (MindChamps) and 3 million shares (for RES) are available for public subscription, which is no more than approximately 10% of the total IPO shares. Hence an investor may lose $2 for each IPO that he cannot successful ballot for.

SMRT
Dear readers, I have been following the parliamentary debate on the SMRT flooding episode. Indeed, as a daily commuter of SMRT’s train services, I am disappointed at the state of our rail system. Though much has been bantered that our rail system has been working for close to thirty years already, I don’t think we can make for a similar case for Hong Kong’s railway system which is going strong even after working for a long period of time. Hence the bottomline of this all drills down to how SMRT manages its rail business be it hardware or the software.
