Dear readers, recently the US dollar has retreated slightly versus the Singapore dollar. Dear readers, you would have agreed with me that MindChamps stock which recently made its debut on the SGX amidst a much oversubscription has performed well. Yesterday, MindChamps stock closed at $0.96 per share which is $0.13 (or 15.66%) above its IPO per share of $0.83 per share. I believe investors who are invested into MindChamps did so for a couple of reasons like the MindChamps brand name, the growth prospects of private early childhood education in Singapore and the fact that SPH, a Temasek-linked company has a stake in MindChamps. MindChamps owns, operates and franchises infant care centres, pre-schools, enrichment centres as part of its business.

[BREAKING NEWS!] CIVIL SERVANTS TO GET ONE MONTH BONUS

Dear readers, it was announced that yesterday civil servants will get a full month bonus, on top of their 13th month bonus for year 2017. For the whole year 0f 2017, inclusive of the 0.5 month bonus paid in July 2017, the total bonuses for a civil servant works out to be 1.5 months bonus. This is not including performance bonus as well as the 13th month bonus paid to a civil servant. I think the news of the year-end bonus is a positive one for civil servants though I myself am not one. I am happy for my friends who are civil servants as they will be getting the one month bonus.

Dear readers, there are currently five stocks trading at over 9% dividend yield on the Singapore Stocks Exchange. Are you ready to find out what these five stocks are?

I woke up to the news that Amazon founder, Mr Jeff Bezos who has recently made it to the richest of the world has become even richer with a net worth of US $100 BILLION. That means to say Jeff Bezos has a net worth of US$100,000,000,000! To me, this is an astronomical amount considering that many are still striving toward becoming a millionaire.

While I am not in the position to influence your choice of IPOs, and I do not wish to have this article influence the way you invest; I would just want to share my thinking of these two IPOs.

This was the stock which I have shared with readers that former Minister-of-State Mrs Yu Fu Yee Shoon, an independent Director of KOP has made her first purchase of the company’s stock (you can read the post here ).

DBS STOCK: WHAT INVESTORS NEED TO KNOW?

Dear Readers, just a few days ago, Hong Kong’s Tencent stock overtook Facebook as the most valuable tech company with a market valuation of US$522B, more than Facebook’s valuation of a little over US$519B. Back in Singapore, Singtel has always been the most valuable company in Singapore in terms of market capitalization. But yesterday, DBS with a market capitalization of $63.71B overtook Singtel’s market capitalization of $60.25B as Singapore’s most valuable company. Hence in Hong Kong, they have Tencent making a quantum leap over its US counterpart Facebook. And back in Singapore, we have DBS taking over Singtel as the most valuable company in Singapore.

It was reported that PM Lee cited Finance Minister Heng’s saying that tax increases are not a matter of whether but a matter of when.

MINDCHAMPS IPO VS RES IPO: WHICH WOULD YOU SUBSCRIBE?

Dear readers, just a gentle reminder for those of you who are into Singapore IPOs. There are currently two IPOs ongoing. One is MindChamps IPO and the other one is RES IPO. MindChamps IPO will close at noon on 22 Nov 2017 and the shares will start trading on 24 Nov 2017. On the other hand, RES IPO will close at noon on 20 Nov 2017 and will make its trading debut on 22 Nov 2017. What investors should note is that it may be very challenging to successful ballot for these two IPOs as only 2 million shares for (MindChamps) and 3 million shares (for RES) are available for public subscription, which is no more than approximately 10% of the total IPO shares. Hence an investor may lose $2 for each IPO that he cannot successful ballot for.

Heliconia Capital Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings would be subscribing to 16 million cornerstone shares. TOM K: A RECENT US STOCKS STRATEGY

Dear readers, recently I have been trading some US pharmaceutical stocks which have fallen out of favour as a result of US President Donald Trump’s declaration of war against opioids. I saw that the war against opioids present a good opportunity to lap up some good fundamentals pharmaceutical stocks as their stock prices corrected due to the news. And the outcome of my trading has been positive.

Sembcorp Marine stock has been trending up and I believe I could be one of the earliest one to note of this as have been sharing with you readers.

Dear readers, yesterday I shared that I disposed off all of my Fu Yu stocks. The divestment of my investment in Fu Yu stocks was due to me not understanding why there was a big divestment of Fu Yu stocks by a substantial investor. As a result of me not understanding, I did not hold my stocks in Fu Yu anymore. However, if an investor knows and understands the reason behind the divestment and if he deems that Fu Yu stock will still be bullish, then he can continue to hold. I mean ultimately, when we make decisions in investing, it all hinges on what each and everyone understands, which is differs from investor to investor. And based on our understanding, we make investment decisions.
