HEALTH IS WEALTH

Singapore Stocks Blog I have been blogging about investments in this blog as a way to grow one’s wealth. But on a more holistic view, one’s Health is really one’s Wealth. Only with good health, can one go on to achieve his goals. Only with good health, one can avoid spending monies on the medical side. Good Health is the fundamental enabler to Wealth and Happiness.

Dr Michael Leong, founder of ShareInvestor.com has passed away

Dr Michael Leong, the founder of ShareInvestor.com has passed away on the morning of 12 Feb 2016, according to a post on NextInsight Facebook page . I was surprised to read of the news. Though I have much earlier on learnt of ShareInvestor.com portal, it was only when I read “Your First Million Making it in stocks” by Dr Michael Leong that I came to learn of the founder of ShareInvestor.com. The book contains valuable nuggets of investing information which all investors should read.

The most priceless asset one can have

In the past, when I was a teenager, I did not have the habit of drinking coffee. I only drank coffee just before my examinations during my school days to keep me awake during the important examinations. I still recalled not being able to sleep then at night after the consumption of the caffeine-laden drink due to the “after-effect” of coffee. Fast forward to today, I have to drink coffee in the morning to keep me awake.

Medishield Life

Ever since the details of the Medishield Life were unveiled, I have not been looking closely at the details as knowing just the overview of the seemingly myriad of information is making me overloaded on the information side. As someone who has private Medishield plans, my natural thoughts are whether is it still better to stay insured with the private plans or to just take up the public Medishield Life plans which should be sufficient for the needs of most Singaporeans? Anyway, the perplexing web of information and data does not help me gain clarity on the differences between these two groups of plans.

How much will you pay for your Greens?

Yesterday morning, I tucked few pieces of vegetables between my slices of bread from a loaf which I bought at a humble price. There, I completed the spread with some yummy mayonnaise and there I have: my home-made, wholesome breakfast which cost just so much lesser than one could get from a similar commercial outfit and the health benefits are no lesser than it. I like vegetables and I see how in this fast-paced society of ours, many people are consuming quite a lot of junk food and not much vegetables, are leading quite a sedentary lifestyle with too many hours sitting in the offices and not doing too much exercises.

Of Money and Stress

I read the report that says that city dwellers are more prone to stress. Let me give you one reason why we city dwellers are stressed: most of the stress has to do with MONEY.

First work. I really think that many of us face stress related to work. Though the nature of work varies across individuals, it is a common feature that many of us work very long hours at work as can be seen in the many executives returning back home at late hours every working day. This can be one form of stress. But what do we work for? The answer is MONEY!

Of Hair Loss and being Wealthy

Many people in Singapore are suffering from hair loss. I am also suffering from hair loss but I have no real gripes about hair loss as I am already old and I have seen many people younger than me having hair which is thinner or these people are balding. I think being Healthy, Peaceful and Happy are the most important in life. I know this is an unconventional post but since most of us (I think) are experiencing some form of hair loss to some degree and most of us want to be rich and wealthy, I have integrated these two topics into a post which I hope is useful to you.

Life is BIGGER than an Investment

I read of a concept called Social Investment or Social Insurance in a news article. The article talked about having a career as an investment and this week, it dwelled on having personal networks and contacts as a form of investment or insurance. Well, actually this concept is not new to me as personally, I have really thought that Life is more about making money and when one uses the term Investment to define something intrinsic as family or relationships, it does not really go down well with me as investments are mainly defined in two commonly-known parameters: risks and returns. Would you want to base your family or social relationships on returns?

Three important things that are more important than making monies

It has been quite some time since my previous post on this blog. From early December 2013 to just a few days ago, I have been subject to quite some stresses physically, emotionally and mentally. I would not want to elaborate on the above further but I would just want to stress three important things to you readers; three important things which are more important than making monies.

The first important thing is to cherish and value your loved ones. Show that you care for them and that they are important to you. Perform simple acts of gratitude and appreciation to show that you love them. If you would like to fulfil a promise to them, do the promise as soon as you can; do not keep waiting and waiting to have the time to cherish your loved ones as time may not always wait for you.

Health is Wealth

I just had a McDonalds extra value meal lunch. The lunch cost me $6.60. I consider the meal a luxury meal which I tried to partake in only once a week. I feel quite guilty eating the meal though the meal made me happy. I feel guilty as normally I will pay around $2.50 to $3 for a meal outside; the McDonalds extra value meal is almost double the price of what I normally eat outside.

A cost-effective idea to being Healthy

The very first key plank of a strategy to building wealth is to Save. Most people have the idea that the more one earns, the more monies he will have. Well, in general though this is quite true, there is a quantifier to the above statement and that quantifier is that provided the person saves. And if a person is to save diligently and invest wisely; he is going to increase or even multiply his wealth. So how does one save?

The Greatest form of Wealth

I have always feel blessed to be in relatively good health overall. I have also always not taken good health for granted. I exercise as and when I can, trying to jog at least once a week; for instance, I went for a jog last night despite feeling very tired from the long hours sitting in front of the computer and from enduring the nonsense in the office.

I have also always tried to stick to a good diet; one that does not consist of chemicals, preservatives, too much oil, sugar or salt and one that is focused on fruits, vegetables and vitamins. It is not easy to find food sold outside that satisfy the above criteria. I believe I have consumed quite a fair bit of the above during meals at work despites my best and noble intentions not to do so. Some more, quite often, to escape from the nonsense in the office, I tend to smack on fast food on some days of the week. Fast food consumed in the above context is happy food though it does not really help in my maintenance of good health.
